Youth fight against human trafficking trough curriculum activities in Macedonia and Albania

 
 

           

      Guided by the fact that human trafficking is highly profitable organized crime that represents serious form of violence that jeopardizes the basic human rights and freedoms, we have focused our work on prevention from human trafficking. This is a global problem that reflects in the Republic of Macedonia and the number of youth becoming victims of human trafficking is increasing. We have focused our work on prevention from human trafficking through education that will inform the youth of the danger from this global phenomenon and to activate them in the combat against human trafficking.

      “Youth fights against human trafficking through curricula activities in Macedonia and Albania” is a project that the Center for Civic Initiative (CCI) from Prilep realized in partnership with the Albanian Center for Human Rights (ACHR) from Tirana, Albania, financially supported by ifa, Zivik, project.

Our aim in this project was to inform the youth about this global phenomenon so as to decrease the number of youth that are trafficked in Macedonia and Albania and to create healthy environment for leaving. Also we were aiming to educate the youth to protect themselves and dedicate to the free society relieved from conflicts, abuse and suffering.  

Our work was directed towards education and informing, and we worked in rural and urban area.

       During the project implementation in both of the countries we have accomplished the following results:

  • Educated per 20 teachers in each country for the prevention measures from human trafficking that can be used in the school curriculum
  • The teachers in cooperation with the representatives from the Department for development of education crated draft plan and program for prevention of human trafficking
  • The draft plan and program was submitted to the Ministry of Education and the Department for development of education in order for the topics for prevention of human trafficking to be included in the regular curriculum
  • Educated teachers worked according the program with 20 pupils that were educated for prevention from human trafficking
  • Organized exchange of visits and experiences among the teachers from Macedonia and Albania where the teachers compared the education system, estimated the results of the work with the children and made recommendations for further successful implementation of the human trafficking programs in the regular curriculum
  • Organized study visits for the representatives of the Ministry for Education so as to see the effects of the realization of the project and to make analysis of the need for practicing of the prevention from human trafficking in the regular curriculum
  • The pupils were included in two school clubs where they were creative and prepared info campaigns for prevention from human trafficking preparing 3 numbers of Newsletters. The teachers were encouraged to dedicate part of their work to educating the children about human trafficking, an issue which needs to be elaborated on during the educational process.

       With this project CCI directed its work on the prevention from human trafficking targeting the most risky group for trafficking, creating structural approach towards the prevention from human trafficking in the educational process.

         The project was realized in the period 01.01.2008 – 31.12.2008 funded by ifa, Zivik Project.
