Visit to NATO

This visit was consisted of meetings of the NGO representatives with NATO representatives who were representing the political and military establishment. First working day (15.07) was consisted of meetings with the political representatives of NATO. It was an open discussion about the questions related to NATO role in Republic of Macedonia at the time of the crises in Macedonia, about the chances for Macedonia to be called for a member of the Prague Summit in November, 2002, for the NATO extension, NATO relations with Russia and China etc. These subjects were opened for discussion during the discussion with the NATO representative in charge for the speeches of the general secretaries and also with the vice spokesman of the General Secretary. The same day we had a meeting with the Macedonian Ambassador in NATO-Nano Ruzin, as well as we visited the office of the Macedonian mission in NATO. At the end of the day we had a meeting with the representative of Soros Foundation in Brussels and with  Nikolas White, representative of the International crises group.

Second day (16.07) we had meetings with the military part of NATO-SHAPE, where we had an opportunity to talk to the British and Polish military representative of NATO who could answer all our questions related to military structures of NATO, the way they are functioning and working. This visit was very important for CCI and other NGOs because of the fact that there was an opportunity for us to be introduced closely to NATO structures and their role in the world and Balkan, as well as for the fact that Republic of Macedonia is a candidate-claimant for the membership in it. This visit also opened an opportunity for those NGOs which are interested in cooperation and work on projects supported by NATO. This was a first meeting i.e. visit of NGO representatives from Republic of Macedonia to NATO headquarters. The visit was financially supported by the NATO headquarters in Brussels and it was organized by FOSIM –Skopje FOSIM-Skopje also made the selection of 9 representatives from NGOs in Republic of Macedonia who had an honor to visit NATO. CCI was one of them. The FOSIM representative in the Brussels’ visit was Vice-Executive Director Mrs. Slavica Indjevska.
