Turkish Bath

In the period May-September 2001, CCI and some other local NGOs together with the Institute for Protection of the Cultural Monuments and Natural Rarities and Museum Prilep and Local Government started activities for revitalization and restoration of the old Turkish bath in Prilep. It is a  cultural monument protected by law.

From all this subjects it was established a working body which was included in the activities of the program "Living heritage" which was funded by Belgium Foundation King Boduin and it was implemented through the program for culture and art of Foundation Open Society Institute Macedonia -Skopje.

This was a pilot phase of this program ("Living heritage") in which besides the Prilep and the Old Turkish Bath it included the locality of Skopje's old bazaar in Skopje, building of the Krusevo house in Krusevo, ruined in the past and restoration of the Old Jewish House in Bitola.

In the first part of this program developing grants were realized in order later to submit the head projects for start of the restoration and revitalization of these cultural monuments.

The career of the developing grant is the Center for Civic Initiative in cooperation with another two NGOs, Forum for vanguard creativity - Prilep and ISKON- Association for urgent preservation of the cultural heritage - Prilep, and it was coordinated by the NGO Support Center from Prilep.

The goal of this pilot project was an evaluation of the community needs before the beginning of the archeological researches and before conservation and restoration of the object. This is a first example of this kind of cooperation of governmental institutions on local level with local NGOs.
