Transferring positive experiences from reactivation of the urban communities in Prilep, for reactivation of the urban communities in Kicevo

      Guided by the experience that the Center for Civic Initiative (CCI) gained within the realization of the project for capacity building of the urban communities from Prilep, CCI with this project has enabled the citizens from Kichevo to take active civil participation in the decision making processes. At the same time through transferring positive experiences from Prilep to the Center for Sustainable Community Development from Kichevo the cooperation with the Urban Communities and the Local Self-government was improved.

       Five trainings with the representatives from the Urban and Neighborhood Units were held so as to increase the knowledge for project design. A Coordinative Body was created with the aim of improving the connection – partnership between the representatives of the Urban Communities and the Local Self-government. Forums were organized on the following topics: “The problems and needs of the Urban Communities” and “Urban planning of Kichevo and the role of the Neighborhood Units in the process”. A lot of citizens attended the forums during which promotional materials were delivered.

       After the delivery of the trainings for the communities a process of re-granting was started. On the call for proposals from the 5 applied projects the best project was selected from the Neighborhood Unit of “Bichinci” – Adaptation of public space to playground for small football. 

       Upon finishing of the project activities the general objective of the project was achieved, i.e. public space is being adapted and improved conditions are available for the youth to organize activities for quality free time. In the realization of the project activities the community of Bichinci gave their contribution.

       With the realization of a project of this type the citizens from Municipality of Kichevo for the first time were included in the decision making processes on local level. Center for Civic Initiative achieved the following effects:

• the Center for Sustainable Development of the Community from Kichevo increased its capacities for the ways of improvement of the cooperation among the Urban Communities and the Local Self Government and started applying them in the regular practice
• Mechanism for connection of the citizens with the Local Self-government was created and is functional
• The citizens become aware of their role in the decision making processes and the need of their direct inclusion in the projects for improvement of the community

        The Urban Communities acted in pro active manner for finding solutions for improvement of their community and took direct participation in the implementation of there-granted project.
