The NGOs from the region of the cities Prilep and Krusevo in the period 1999-2000 had an enormous upsurge. In that period was registered more than 100 citizen’s associations that are working in different parts of non-governmental work. Their role in the community could not be realized totally because there wasn't good co-ordination and firm channel of information flow among them. Their capacities regarding the human resources and equipment were relative undeveloped and unfocused. There was a great need for NGO service that will make influence in the direction of their development and support of working in a network.
 Center for Civic Initiative, with its experience and capacity, as a leading domestic organization in the region received the role of a partner in the project NGO Support Center, financed by Foundation Open Society Institute Macedonia and Swiss Agency for Development.
The Center in Prilep is a part of the network that includes other three centers founded in the towns of Shtip, Kichevo and Veles. With the existence of these centers the need on the national level is covered.
The goal of the project is to help in development and strengthening of the NGOs in the region. A wide range of activities will be conducted in order to achieve these goals.
The center completed an information base that incorporates all the information about the local NGO sector, its activities and spreading the possibilities for common contribution in the region.
A project of this kind is very important for the development of the local community and the whole country, because the strong NGO sector is an integral part in the mechanism for development of a democratic society. By implementing the project, CCI contributed to the development and strengthening the NGOs. The project also included cooperation with the local authorities by improving the communication and establishing of strong NGO network. By strengthening the NGO sector, which represents the citizens, the possibilities for having more democratic society largely increase.
The services that the NGOs were receiving through this center:

- Use of the office space for the needs of the associations, meetings, appointments, project activities etc;

- Use of telephone and fax services;

- Use of computers and Internet communication and printing documents;

- Photocopying documents and materials;
|
| |
- Use of books and literature in NGO work for the needs of NGOs with previous announcement and request.

- Giving application forms for projects

In the activities of NGO Support Center were also foreseen educational workshops and seminars for NGO capacity building and improvement of their work and function.
NGO Support Center presented the strategy duration, financed by FOSIM and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, in duration of 3 years (December 2000 - November 2003).
