Increasing the public awareness in regard for the consequences from preteen marriages with the Roma communities and enabling higher quality health services for the preteen mothers in Prilep and Bitola.
Results:
- Held 11 round tables in Prilep and Bitola addressing health issues;
- Issued documentation for children and preteen mothers
- Gynecologist check ups provided to 25 Roma preteen mothers
Activities:
The cases of pre teen marriages and pre teen mothers are very common within Roma communities in the Pelagonia region. The project, through its activities act towards two directions:
- Providing help to pre teen mothers
- Providing education for Roma people in order to decrease the number of pre teen marriages
In order to achieve project aim, activities in the project are divided in three groups:
- Providing documents (Medical IDs and Birth certificates for pre teen mothers and their children)
- In educational part 8 Round tables were organized in the Roma community. The round tables included Roma NGOs who work on the improvement of the living conditions in the Roma settlements, citizens and pre teen mothers.
- Printed material with education and motivation component towards Roma people, more concretely towards pre teen mothers in the Roma communities in Prilep and Bitola.
The aim of the project was raising public awareness regarding consequences of preteen marriages in Roma community and ensuring health support for pre-teen mothers in Prilep and Bitola. Results from this project are:
