Enough is Enough

Enough is Enough is a civil action started by about hundred citizens' associations working in Macedonia. It does not have national character and there is not any political party behind it. The civil concept of living with all responsibilities and obligations it cares is this network's interest. Its strategy is socio-economic development of the community without involving the government.

CCI is officially member of this network since 2001. It is national and established during the war crises in 2001 in order to stop the war conflict. Enough is Enough made a progress and turned into network which not only addresses ethnic issues, but also issues related to the problems that originate from the general condition of Republic of Macedonia.

Macedonia's Civic Platform

In the period when the society and social living found themselves in crisis, lacking ideas and initiatives, and citizens’ attitude towards non-governmental organizations, no matter of their profile, started to get worse, there was a need felt to strengthen the sector. The strengthening of (the influence of) civic sector and its actors was a base for a group of civic organizations and individuals in July 2003 to initiate establishing a platform of civic organizations in Macedonia, which proved to be necessary. The idea of this group was to establish a platform aiming at increasing civic sector’s capacity and the ability for its mobilizing, based on the principles of transparency, discussion and action, pluralism and objectivity.

Center for Civic Initiative, considering really the need to link civic organizations in Macedonia in a joint action for accomplishing significant results within society supported this idea and worked on its equipping and promoting.

On March 16th the idea for platform of civic organizations came true, GPM was established. Looking it from a distance, looking the period when only the idea was born, the current condition of this platform can only encourage us, because it has sound bases. The idea simply evaluated and now we have a platform which is based on a Charter of principles, defining it as an open space for thinking, not intending it to be an exclusive body representing Macedonian civic society, but intending to increase civic sector’s capacity and the ability the mobilize the civic society. This platform will have a bright future if everyone that joins it aim at developing civil society, and not only at becoming members of one more platform, network, coalition etc.

Our expectations are that Civic Platform will actually strengthen civic society, in other words it will take roots and provide its organization and permanence. This platform will provide a higher compatibility of Macedonian civic organizations, because they need it. This platform will search for adapted values, concepts and practices of civic society and will support their building up because civic organizations and initiatives are worth only if they are owned by the state and as a part of the society. The Platform is expected to be a process that will encourage all doers within civic society.

On the meeting of the Council of Macedonia’s Civic Platform held on 14th of April 2006, with large number of votes CCI was assign by the Council as a highest body of the Platform, to run the Secretariat of Macedonia’s Civic Platform as an operational Body for two years.
