On June 15, 1999 began the implementation of the project “Children - Youth Centers - Babylon” by the Italian humanitarian organization Cooperazione e svilupo (CESVI), funded by European Commission Humanitarian Office (ECHO) and ended in September 2000. The project had socio - educational character with special accent to relaxation of interethnic relations in Macedonia and socializing of the children. The idea formed and provided sustainability of children - youth centers throughout Macedonia. In the eight towns in Macedonia: Prilep, Veles, Krusevo, Stip, Radovis, Tetovo, Struga and Kumanovo, where these centers were established, were involved children between 6-18 years old. CCI coordinated the centers in Prilep, Veles and Krusevo.
Activities, where apart from the educational process the methods for interethnic tolerance and socialization were implemented, were the following: English language, informatics, sports, a creative workshop (music, arts, drama, etc), social skills (psychological workshop), journalism, street law and debate workshops. Each activity was carried out according to a specially determined program for the adequate aim. The program differed from the common school program within educational system. The program itself included 1300 children and 300 teenagers.
In the conducting of the project as a partner appeared the Foundation Institute Open Society-Macedonia which helped with its program in the realization of the journalistic activities, street law and debate.
