The local community in Prilep is facing the problem of Trizla settlement. This settlement, which is a part of Prilep town, is one of the poorest settlements, with bad infrastructure and many problems.The biggest ethnic group there is the Roma population, although there is a certain number of a Macedonian population living in Trizla settlement. Since the condition in this settlement is very bad, Institute for Sustainable Communities initiated a realization of a project which aim was to determine the concrete problems in this settlement, to gave them a priority and to took an action towards them. Since the problem was very specific, the leader of the project is the Roma NGO Romani Sukaripa in Prilep. CCI was a partner NGO which aim was to strengthen the Roma NGO institutionally and to contribute with its experience to the successful realization of the project activities.
Through the realization of the research phase which included an education of a team which worked on this project, there were examined the main problems and the reasons for the current condition of the Trizla settlement. A very important segment was addressing problem of the whole settlement, including both Macedonian and Roma population in this settlement.
The project was realized step by step. Every next phase was planned in advance according to the experiences from the previous implementing phase. After 6-8 months work on research and education, the next phase included concrete activities for addressing problems which came up as a priorities in the previous phase.
The importance of this project is very big. The Trizla settlement is facing at different kind of problems, starting from the infrastructure and coming to the poverty problem and the problem of generating financial means. Taking into consideration the fact that the majorities in this settlement are Roma people who have the problems of illiteracy, family and its role in the community and health problems, we must say that an implementation of a project of this kind was very important.
Institute for Sustainable Communities - Skopje in cooperation with Center for Civic Initiative and Romani Sukaripa made the first step towards improving the living conditions in this settlement which is a part of Prilep town. The project was realized from March 01, 2003 to October 31, 2003.
