Strengthening of the networks in Macedonia

The project “Strengthening of the networks in Macedonia” has been realized on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia, supported by Balkan Trust for Democracy Foundation. The project activities ended in august 2009. The project focused on building the network capacities so as to raise their credibility, internal cooperation and trust building, as well as to connect the networks with the government representatives to involve the networks and civic organizations in the decision making process. The civic organizations were also motivated to cooperate and communicate with the Media and to promote the positive changes they make.

With this project we have refunded three projects, of three networks with diverse capacity and from different part of Macedonia. These networks include: the biggest network in Macedonia SOZM which covers 105 NGO, Action for development from Kicevo which is a newly formed regional network that stimulates the joint work of the citizen sector without any divisions and prejudices (Macedonian and Albanian), and network for the tourism development in Krusevo which serves as a role model of cooperation to the Local Self-government, NGO, Tourist bureau and citizens, the result of which is the community development by means of better offer to the tourists. The networks realized the projects and accomplished their own results.

SOZM increased the capacities to 61 representatives of the women organizations, raised the conscience and motivation among the members of the network over the need of two-way communication, regular informing, initiating meeting and joint action.

The network for tourism development in Krushevo prepared electronic and printed material about the accommodation capacities in Krushevo, organized trainings for the citizens over the capacities and offers improvement, made an electronic map of the city, functional network among the Local Government, Tourist Bureau and the citizens.

The campaign for the development in Kichevo made coalition of the nongovernmental organizations with complete documentation and improved the collaboration with the Media and the Local Government.

Concerning the networks and the interest for applying, 15 networks (coalitions) applied. What’s worth distinguishing is the emergence of new networks, and networks with residence in areas outside of Skopje, as well as the participation of the oldest and largest networks in Macedonia. This call succeeded in arousing the interest among networks from different fields, such as: ecology, children rights, and organizations of disabled persons, informatics, music artists, women, youth, multicultural, and farmers. The networks were situated across the whole country in different cities, such as: Skopje, Prilep, Kicevo, Krushevo, Bitola, Kumanovo, Gostivar.

This project drew the attention of the nongovernmental organizations, the Media and the Macedonian public. “Dnevnik”, the newspaper with the greatest circulation in Macedonia, wrote about this project, the story of which was to be found on the second page. The information was also uploaded on the MIA (Macedonian Informative Agency) web page and distributed to the users of this service. It was also distributed among the Macedonian radio and television informative services, Kanal 77 radio network, AB TV, radio Free Europe, and other national media. CCI members are often invited as guests to the radio programs during which they talk about the project and its results.

The project was realized in the period 01.12.2008 – 31.08.2009 funded by the Balkan Trust for Democracy.
